How SCPCN Strengthened Internal Communication with a Modern SharePoint Intranet
Who They Are
South Calgary Primary Care Network (SCPCN) supports 70+ clinics and more than 300 healthcare professionals across South Calgary. With over 100 internal staff working behind the scenes in clinical support, operations, and admin roles, staying connected and informed is key to delivering great care. But with an intranet that was nearly a decade old—and barely used—it was time for something new.
What They Needed
SCPCN wanted to strengthen internal communication by creating a central hub where teams could find what they need, stay informed, and feel aligned. The goal was a modern intranet that made it easy to share updates, access resources, and bring everyone onto the same page without overwhelming inboxes.
The Roadblock
A staff survey confirmed what leadership had already suspected: employees didn’t always feel in the loop. Important changes and updates weren’t reaching everyone, and the old intranet wasn’t helping. It was hard to navigate, outdated, and had largely fallen out of use. SCPCN needed a modern, easy-to-manage solution—but at the time, they didn’t have the in-house resources to build it themselves.
The Game Plan
SCPCN partnered with Convverge to design and build a SharePoint Online intranet tailored to how their team works. It needed to be clean, simple, and easy for both IT and Communications to manage moving forward without relying on custom development or external support.
The Convverge team worked closely with SCPCN to shape the look, feel, and structure of the platform. High-fidelity design mockups helped bring ideas to life before development started, and weekly check-ins kept things moving smoothly. The project stayed on track and on budget, with strong collaboration every step of the way.
Tools We Used
- Microsoft SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365)
- SharePoint web parts and page templates
- Figma for visual prototyping and feedback loops
What Changed
The new intranet launched successfully and quickly became the go-to place for internal updates and resources. Content is now updated several times a week, and teams have easy access to everything from organizational news to department-specific pages and tools. Staff engagement has been steady and strong since launch, and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
How It Measures Up
- Consistently strong staff engagement
- Clear internal ownership and self-management
- Improved access to updates and team resources
- No ongoing reliance on third-party support
The Takeaway
For SCPCN, the new intranet filled a critical gap, making communication more consistent, accessible, and aligned with how the team works today. It’s simple to use, easy to manage, and gets used daily. With Convverge as their guide, they’ve built a solid foundation that can grow with them into the future.
