SharePoint 2013 and Office 365 gives us new opportunities to explore different approaches when solving line-of-business problems: not only are we now storing business data in the cloud, but we are also packaging and publishing our software differently. Things really get tricky when we need to support legacy platforms as well with the same packages.
Some recent changes in best practices:
- Avoid dumping the WSP in the 14/15 hive
- You will need a deployment harness to sling your WSPs into a complex environment (multi-head, app/web server, etc..)
- IE8 still remains a player in the corporate world, so you will need not only responsive, but smart layouts to detect modern vs. legacy browsers and complete all scaling
- Don’t forget about the App Store!
