Chad Mitchell on the Human Side of Tech: Building People & Culture at Convverge
In tech, we talk a lot about innovation, speed, and scalability. But behind every successful IT project is a team of people—real humans solving complex problems, adapting to constant change, and collaborating across disciplines. That’s where Chad Mitchell comes in.
As Manager of People & Culture at Convverge, Chad is focused on building the kind of environment where those people can thrive, where culture doesn’t lag behind growth, and where connection and clarity fuel performance.
“I’ve worked in both large and small organizations,” says Chad. “I was drawn to Convverge because it’s scaling fast, but doing so with intention. There’s structure, but also room to shape what’s next.”
Bringing a people-first lens to a tech-driven company
Chad’s background is in recruitment and talent acquisition, but it’s the long game that excites him: hiring people, watching them grow, and creating systems that support both the business and the humans behind it.
“Tech is an environment that’s constantly evolving. You have to stay curious, agile, and open to change, and the same goes for people strategy,” Chad explains. “Building a high-performing tech company requires more than just great engineers and consultants. It requires a culture that supports collaboration and connection.”
Although he’s not in a client-facing role, Chad’s work shapes every experience, both internally and externally.
If we build a culture where our people are energized and supported, that ripples out to our clients. It shows up in the way we communicate, deliver, and innovate.
Coaching on and off the field
Chad credits much of his approach to his background in team sports, specifically lacrosse and hockey. As both a player and a coach, he learned the value of teamwork, discipline, and adaptability—traits he now sees as essential to thriving in tech.
“IT organizations move fast. No two days are the same. It reminds me a lot of competitive sports. Everyone has a role to play, but the ability to work together and adjust in real time is what creates success,” he says.
Outside of work, Chad continues to coach lacrosse, volunteer with the Calgary Stampede, and stay active in the community. His leadership style reflects that same sense of grounded energy and commitment to growth.
Building culture in a scaling IT company
At Convverge, Chad’s goals are both simple and ambitious: build meaningful connections, hire great people, and evolve culture as the company scales.
“My focus right now is connection… getting to know the team, understanding what makes them tick, and making sure we’re hiring people who align with where we’re going.”
When asked which Convverge value resonates most, Chad chooses one that speaks to the company’s spirit: Have fun! Enjoy the technology.
“We spend a lot of our lives at work. If we’re not creating space for people to enjoy what they do—especially in a demanding field like tech—then we’re missing something important.”
One of his favourite quotes, from Phil Jackson, sums up his approach perfectly:
The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.
